Suit yourself. You are possibly expecting too much from a 45 year old used car.
And he's absolutely got to have a chrome bumper car. He may find one eventually, and as others have mentioned, it's going to take time, patience and even the willingness to travel far. Like get on a plane, kind of travelling. If he wants a local C3 for under $20k, that doesn't need a bunch of resources to get going, well we know the answer to that question. As far as the early C3's being pieces of crap, it comes down to "you get what you pay for". I particularly remember the two early C3's here in California, for $25k and one of them was negotiable! And they were far nicer than this, for only a few thousand or so, more. Z, you're going to have to expand the range farther and stretch that $20k outwards, if you want a piece quality Early C3.
Just an observation. I've never seen a thread like these where the posters said "good deal" or "go for it". They seem to always say to walk away from the car, that you'd go broke fixing it. I'm not saying this is a $20,000 car, I just keep seeing a pattern.
I agree. This thread is a classic example with people claiming things about the car you can't tell from the ad. You had to have looked at the car to tell if any of those guesses were true.
No major mechanical issues? The whole rear suspension is not very far off from needing to be totally rebuilt.

Ridiculous. You can't tell a thing about the suspension from the pictures in the ad, there aren't even any pictures of the suspension and even if there were you can rarely tell anything about the condition of a suspension from pictures.

Yep, that rubber looks factory fresh (sarc). Looks like it hasn't been touched since it rolled off the assembly line, so I'll stand with my conviction. Everything there is going on a half century old.
ZAKsPop, it took many of us many years to find the right car.
Mine was over a year search. Looking at many means when the right one shows up you know it.
The hunt can be frustrating at times, but the end results can be good and exciting.
At your 20K price point though you are looking at the bottom end so except to see more trash. But then again when a widow throws a car up for sale you may get lucky.
I'll have this to say about the rear suspension. At least, itlooks very rebuildable and is a good example of an original rear susp. that would present minimal problems on working on it.
Minimal dry rust, rotted rubber, looks like original U joints but it doesn't look like this: (and forgive me, any members who inherited this, my hat is off in salute, to you, that you would take this on!)
Still a pass, only for the body and price a bit too high.
OK. What would be a reasonable price? This car isn't a parts car as one member said. I drove this car. It rode well. It ran well. He already came down to 15K without any haggle. I feel bad for him because he was told that it was the original 454 but it turns out it is a truck engine and the car is a base 350 W/O any options except 4-speed.
I don't see any obvious issues in those pics, and it looks like it was well taken care of. You might verify that everything works correctly (he didn't mention any vacuum problems) and take a look at it in person if possible
It looks like it's in your area. I don't know anything about it other than what you see. I found it searching around about a month ago, but Houston is a little too far for me to drive. Looks fairly clean, but needs a head gasket. (hopefully that's all it is)

To me this looks the type of car you should be considering. It appears to be a car you can drive and enjoy now and fix/clean up as time and money allows.

Hey thanks! I don't know how I missed that one. I sent a message to the seller. Got my fingers crossed.
