OK guys. What would be a price to offer for the car with all of the pictures. He called me this morning. I told him the bad news about the engine being from a truck and that this was a base car. I told him that makes it worth a lot less and that I was not sure if I wanted to take on a project that big. He said he was open to offers. So.... What would be a realistic offer for it? I'm willing to do the work. Heck, that is kinda what I want to do. The rear doesn't look great. But I was planning on putting on new bushing etc. anyway. A new fiberglass spring. The only things that I wasn't planning on doing was running new fuel lines and completely re-doing the vacuum stuff. Would any of you offer $8000 or $9000? All he can do is say no but I think he might just take it. At $8000 I will have $12000 to throw at it. The car IS drivable. And I kinda look forward to working on it.

It seems you are way too anxious to make a deal. You need to buy with your head not your heart. Just keep that in mind. The search is part of the process just the same as a restoration and then enjoying the car. If you short cut in any part of the process there will be regrets. Sometimes those regrets can be come very costly.

I agree, but it sounds like he wants to work on it as much as he wants to drive it.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't go for this car just because I don't have nearly as much time to fix everything as I'd like, but that's just me. But, if you're looking forward to working on a C3, then this one will give you plenty of work. Plus, with a NOM and carb, you have endless possibilities for what you want to do with the car if you want to spend more that 12k.

Just take your time with this decision, there will always be other vettes for sale if you don't get this one.

Hey Zak , I agree with 3jsvette and with other comments. I am not trying to discourage you from buying this car, only you know what you can spend and what you are capable of mechanically. I think most on the forum are just trying to keep you from making some of the same mistakes we made. My budget was 22k all in for a nice driver. Found a nice 73' vert four speed matching numbers car for 15K and thought I could put 6K into it and have a great car. The car sucked
up that 6k in a heart beat plus 5k more and still going up. the 12k you can throw at this car , 6 to 8k of that will go to Paint and body unless you do it yourself. My advice is give it a rest until after the Holidays and rethink what you really want. The car will probably still be there and if not there are others that will come your way.

I totally agree about the 454 car needing far too much work. Been there done that. You think, you can do it on the cheap, reality is another story. Pass on the 454 car. I pd $7500 for my 72 4 yrs ago, and I paid too much. Mine had no serious rust, original engine, drive train. I did all of the work except for final paint and engine machine work. The car is a good candidate for a resto mod build but expect the final cost in parts to exceed 20k. It all needs replacing.
