1971 454 Frame Off Restoration Progress
Things look very good in those pictures.
The 'gaps' look like whoever worked on them knew what they were doing!
I always enjoy seeing pictures of almost completed chassis and running gear.
I DO wish though that it was a little better protected because getting body-shop dust out of all the places it hides is a BIG job!
Good Luck as you continue!
Regards,
Alan
Maybe a 'little' more like this?

The headlight gaps and alignment were actually done by my dad and myself when I replaced the header bar. All new headlight components and new header bar. Took some time but we were able to get it fitting nicely.
Klear Kustoms had the doors off the car so they could strip the door jams. We used a heat gun and were able to save the blue sticker inside the drivers door that is fully in tact with my VIN on it. Pretty cool. Goes nicely with the tank sticker.
Allan - yes I thought of that as well. Then I looked at another picture and I saw it was wrapped up tight in plastic. They took the plastic off it to take some pictures for me for my records and to post. I am sure it is now wrapped up again while it waits for the body.

Been a little while since my last update, but time for some pictures/progress now that I have finished exams for the semester.
I worked hard on the car over last summer, and then was back to school in September so the progression slowed over the winter.
The project is almost complete at this point!!... I just have door panels and interior trim to install, as well as engine bay shielding etc.
The car came back from the body shop with the body back on the frame. Then it was time for reassembly.
Here it is the day I got it back from the Body Shop:
Next I started with the bumpers, which being original fit excellent after some time working on it.
Made some progress on the engine bay, bent my own fuel lines for the carb.. 850CFM Holley. I used Alan's trick with the flame extinguisher on the need of the hose for the valve cover to tuck under the air cleaner.
The interior came out nice! Carpet took some time to get right, and few adjustments. I stored away the original radio and used a Retrosound Model II. Looks quite good and functions well. I have an amp in the rear compartment, powering the 4x6's in the dash and 6x9's that will be mounted hidden in the corners.
For the centre cluster, the climate control, shifter plate, they were all painted black and my girlfriend spent time using a razor blade on all the edges, to show the chrome. New gauge lenses as well for the climate control and centre cluster.
My original dash pad had cracks over the speaker grill... I happened to find a mint original one (blue in colour) at Carlisle last year, so I dyed it red. I lightly dyed over the other red parts to freshen it up and make it all match.
The paint turned out excellent. Lots of wet sanding and polishing as well.
These are some pics from this past weekend. I put the egg crates on, the wiper door and rear grills, all the emblems.
As a break from my car I wet sanded and polished one spot on my dad's 80. Turned out excellent. Single stage/laquer gives you a lot of polishing potential.
A little more work to go, and then time to enjoy driving it this summer!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Pretty terrific work showing in those photos!
It's a beauty!!
You must be very pleased!!!
I hope it gives you lots of pleasure now!!!!
Regards,
Alan
I think the last 5% of the work takes 25% of the total time!
And, that's the parts people see and judge your overall effort by.

now you have done one spot on your dads car is he wanting the rest done ? I sure would
and that pic of your rear deck ,simply perfect job.
On a completely different thing, I noticed the oil tank for your hoist is kind of close to the doorway , mine is the same type of plastic tank and the sun (U.V) killed it within a couple of years , it cracked open and spilled the oil everywhere while I was away. It gets the direct afternoon sun for about 3 hours everyday , anyway I wrapped my new one in insulation to stop any future dramas.
Have fun driving in your summer

It was a difficult project with many ups and downs, and of course way over budget... but I am very happy with the results!
I will post some more pics when I finish it up in next few months.
My dad also has a 71 454, Red with Brown interior, Convertible with Air, 4 speed.
Will cruise to shows together this summer... Nice father/son combo.
