Off Topic - Cadillac Mechanics Needed -
My 94 year old Uncle in law has 2007 Cadillac dts with the Northstar motor, 95,000 miles, he had it since new, good and regular maint.
He is getting a "Stop Engine - Low Oil Pressure" warning along with the chimes. He says "Oh that, always does it, no problem".
Search shows it could be a sensor, which i guess is a pain to change because you have to remove some lines with proprietary fittings to get to it.
OR
Bad cam bearings etc. etc.
I'm the car guy so I'm the one that is going to try and sell it for him. I want to fix it if I can, I don't want to stick someone else with a problem.
Supposedly this is a common problem, any help / ideas would be appreciated.
Merry Christmas, Frank
The car should have a built-in code reader that displays via the Driver Information Center. You can start the sequence by pressing and holding both the "Info Up" and "On/Off" switches (to the right of the steering wheel) until all of the dash lights come on momentarily. You then use the "On/Off" button to select items and "Info Up" and "Info Down" to go through the menu. "All Codes?" is the one you want to select. Write them down (including the letter that comes before the four-digit number) and find their explanations on the web. Also note whether the errors are "active" or "history". The system diagnoses an amazing amount of things and I would not be surprised if there are codes related to the oil pressure sensor that will give you an idea what to look for. Ignore "history" codes that begin with "U" as unless you are aware of a gross electronic malfunction they can be considered "normal" as they are momentary communication lapses among the many electronic modules installed on a single communication bus.
