Default Head Light Dash Indicator Question

When I turn my head lights on regardless of High or Low beam the dashboard Head Light Indicator stays on as well. Is it supposed to stay on if the headlights are on regardless of High or Low setting?

are you talking about the high beam indicator, if so only when using high beams. If you mean the headlight door light it should go off when the head light doors are fully open.

Yes Sir the on the center dash console the label is "Head Lamps" and when I hit the dimmer switch on and off on the lower left floor the indicater stays on. But when I turn the Head Lights off the indicator light goes out.

there are small switches on the headlight door mechanism. Assuming the headlights do fully open it sounds like the switch/s need adjusting.

Hi CW,
Here's the switch MW describes on each of the headlight door's mechanism that shuts the headlight warning light in the center gauge bezel off when the doors are fully open.
It should turn the warning light off automatically.
Regards,
Alan

It's the black plastic 'button' switch in the center of the picture.

Those switches are phenomenally easy to break

Be very carefully working on and around them

My 72 had one of the switches broken where it bolts to the housing and it showed the same symptoms as yours. I replaced the switch (not expensive) and all is well.

Hi,
The switches can come apart to repair.
Notice the entire threaded snout is only connected to 1/2 of the body of the switch…. THAT'S why they break off so easily!
Didn't they realize what they were setting us up for? Have become probably the easiest things to break on these cars along with wiper pump ports.
Regards,
Alan
