77 door panel carpet install
And yes...the carpet adhesive should be the contact type....meaning it needs to be put on BOTH surface's and allow to tack up. Just be aware.....that you want to make sure you have test fitted it up so you can get it in place...because when the two pieces come together...they will stick like crazy.
YES.,..the carpet glue will work if used as designed.

Regardless if it is in this scenario of gluing the lower carpet strips to a door panel or something else you need to glue something onto another part....and you want it to stick and NOT come off.
I take my contact cement ( glue) and apply a coat on BOTH surfaces and let it dry a day ( depending on how hot it is at that time of the year) ..but regardless...I let it DRY
Then the next day or whenever..I apply another coat and let it DRY.
Then the next day...I apply the LAST COAT and let it dry. Heck..it can dry for a week....it does not matter. SO...3 coats on BOTH surfaces.
THEN...when I am ready to put these to pieces together...I heat up both surfaces with a heat gun until BOTH surfaces feel tacky and put them together...BUT you BETTER make sure you have them where you want them..because they will be bonded together as if they were welded together.
I sue this process in certain areas....and it has never failed me....and I live in the south where heat and humidity can effect on how the glue can hold up.
NO JOKE....if the to pieces just lightly touch...and not even get pressed down...you are screwed....so BE CAREFUL.
