Dub, I agree with you. Coming from 34 years in maintenance at the original MTD plant in Parma,Ohio , where we made automotive parts including Corvette parts, There should have also been a CHECKING FIXTURE to go along with the dies and the welding jigs.
I once bought a pair of 68-69 front bumper guards from GM. I tried to install the one about eight years later and the company that made them for GM had welded in the upper
mount for a left hand side on the right hand guard. No way would it fit correctly. Lou.
