Default motor removal ?

I am going to try and pull my motor in the near future. While its out, what should I do besides paint the engine compartment? What kind of paint do you guys use and what should I use to clean/degrease it?

The car doesn't run but will soon, hopefully...

What do you want to do while the engine is out? Is there anything you need to do while you have the working space?

I used old formula 5-ball Krylon semi flat black.

Got a steam cleaner? If not, you can use any of the commercial degreasers not requiring warm surfaces.

Thx Mike, The motor is supposed to have been gone through when I bought it but it has sat for 2 years. The valves need adjusting from the installation of a new cam and I think the assembly lube may have gone dry so Im going to pull the motor, pull the intake and pan off and check everything out. While there, Im going to install the trans cooler lines. Any tips on that? Couldn't do it with motor in it which gives me another excuse to pull and check. It's got new shocks, brakes. I'll probably use a mixture of brake clean and oven degreaser to clean the area up. its not bad but not clean. wipe it down with acetone and paint. I have a small pressure washer but don't want to blow cleaner all over the car so not sure if I will use it or not.

Doesn't oven cleaner require heat?

Nope not anymore .. Modern formulations kick some serious back side .

But I would use elbow grease and dawn dish liquid cut in water that way you leave no film behind and you cant discolor any surfaces.
