Like I said, I did nothing wrong and he didn't scam me, somehow he threw roadblocks up preventing me from getting part. Crazy behavior
That's probably what happened; got a bigger offer after you won the bid, sold it to the guy, and stalled you out as long as possible. Appreciate the heads-up on the dirtbag.
Glad it didn't cost you $$. Stop payment fees are high for me too.

I won an auction about 15 years ago for 100+ audio vacuum tubes. Only a few people bid, and it was an amazingly low price. Several days later, the seller sent a message telling me his young daughter had knocked over a cabinet, the boxes of tubes had fallen on the floor, and about half were broken. I promptly replied that half was OK, he could just send me the good ones at the same total price. That was the last I ever heard from him.
Dont ebay much anymore, fees add up
Dont ever pay by "gift" I found that one out the hard way was out $400
Thought about listing my car there but dont want any hassles or a million questions once its gone. You bought it its yours. Go.
Craigslist gets a bunch of wanna be flippers/low ballers offering half then when you call them on it they dont have the $ anyway they just want to drive or steal it.
Any of you remember the good ol days of the Recylcler that came out Thurs? Most car guys knew everyone and we didnt have these issues
Unless the rules have changed, ebay requires all sellers to accept Paypal, whether they want to or not simply for the reason to protect the buyer in cases such as these.
Hit him with some negative feedback stating he would not accept Paypal. Good for you that you didn't get hit with a loss.
Nah, many articles exist in ebay faq's about it. It's preferred, but not mandatory.

I don't mean to turn this thread into a collection of eBay stories, but since it's heading in that direction, this is my story. I have a collection of quality, gold and silver, pocket watches (less expensive to collect than cars and take up less space). I purchased one on eBay from someone in England. He advertised that it had one defect, which I felt I could fix and he stated, "Money back guarantee, no questions asked". When I received the watch I found, not one but three problems and I contacted him immediately. He responded and said I should return the watch and when he received it he would refund the money. He had 100% positive feedback and I sent the watch back. He sent me an email that said, "I disagree with you and I'm not refunding the money". So much for his no questions asked, money back guarantee. Now he had my money and the watch. To add insult to injury, he relisted the watch and sold it for more than I had paid. I filed a claim with eBay with all of the correspondence and a screenshot of the sale of the relisted watch and eBay did refund my money. Bad experience, but eBay was reliable and of my 400+ purchases on eBay, that was the only negative one. Sorry to ramble, don't feel obligated to read this (I probably should have put that at the beginning).
Glad to hear everyone's stories. Happy New Year to everyone and hope you all have good eBay dealings!!!

I once sold an item on ebay in 2015. It was at a time when paypal was not mandatory in ebay motors parts and accesories while the rest of ebay was paypal only. Item was clearly marked "certified checks or MOS only"[as the buyer admitted to reading] on the front page of the ad. Buyer wins the auction and complains there was no paypal. As a courtesy I add paypal to save him the time and effort of buying a certified check, then mailing it and waiting 3 days for the check to arrive. Then he doesnt want to pay through a "bogus" paypal link and says he now wants to pay by check. He never sends check Item gets relisted after the correct non paying bidder timeline is followed and ebay guidelines followed to the T. Buyer is upset he didnt get the item. He then shows up on corvette forums and makes it sound like he was scammed out of 40.00 from a Gold seller on ebay since 1998 . Shameful..even more so that people not even involved would make a comment without knowing any facts Im still perplexed as to why someone would claim they had extreme difficulty trying to pay for something that they really wanted ,and then say they sent a non acceptable payment method as listed with a personal check while earlier admitting the ebay ad said "certified check or MO only"...
Oh, I know it can get to a person who follows the rules, pays the price to conform, etc., and then have run-ins with folks like those mentioned here. But life is short, and I gained this perspective in an ICU & a hospital recovery room.
The thread is good to alert us, but I'm afraid some problems are inevitable and, although "acceptable" is the wrong word, it's gonna happen.
Any charge for stop payment on check? My bank charges $25
There's a way around that. I had a check mysteriously disappear. Called the bank to let them know.
Was told it would cost me $25.00. I told them not to worry about it. i know the check wasn't signed and if it came through it would be forged and they would be responsible for it and would have to refund the amount to my account.
