Original Interior carpet source
Just picked up a '71 4spd car that the previous owner put in a plush carpet. I prefer the loop carpet since it is what was probably original to the car because it is a low option car. What aftermarket supplier has the most original to spec carpet on the market? I'd like to make the car as original as possible, it only has 65k miles.
Thanks,
Chas
There are only a couple of manufactures of the carpet sets that the various vendors sell.
The carpet they use is quite similar, while there's some differences in how the carpet is cut, formed, and finished.
The carpet actually makes a nicer appearance than the original.
Another issue to consider is the accuracy of the heel and dimmer pads which tend to be only 'close' to the originals.
Check Al Knock, Corvette America, and Auto Custom Carpet. Ask for samples so you can see what you're going to be getting.
The pile carpet would have been part of the deluxe interior option which included leather seats, special door panels, console trim and the carpet. It wasn't a separate option.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Here's a picture showing: on the left: original carpet with no backing used on the seat bulkhead, center: original carpet with the typical backing, right: reproduction carpet with typical thick backing.

The kit fit well and was just like the original.
I and a friend who does upholstery did the removal-install and it went pretty simply with just a bit of trimming..
Rear floor door covers, console carpeting..Door panel carpeting.
My car is a '78 Silver Anniversary with the Oyster White interior..leather seats..
Almost too pretty to climb into with shoes on..
but not quite..

I liked the more uniform loops and the more correct 68-72 red interior color of Mid America's carpet and had to return the A.C.C. carpet that I had bought. Lou.
I cheaped out and saved about $40.00 but it took and extra two weeks to get it installed properly. It's
like the molding process was half-a$$ed or something... very dissatisfied with the product.
