Default How do I remove the headlight ****?

As you can see I need to remove the headlight **** on my 69 to install the new bezel I ordered. But, I figured I'd ask how to do it before I break something. Do I just pull hard or twist, or what?

without more info...

Most GMs had a button on the side of the switch that had to be pressed, to pull the **** and shaft out.

The way I changed mine was to unscrew the dash, set the wheel as low as it would go, pull the dash a bit forward and squeezed my hand in there. There is a little button on the headlight switch that allows the **** to be removed. The button can be hard to press and you may have to work the **** to loosen it out, but it should come out. Just be careful with your dash. You don't want to crack anything.

Im doing mine right now. I needed to fix my dash light problem si I took out the seats, took off the steering wheel, lowered the column, pulled the dash, was able to get to the switch easily and find the button. Alot more than you may want to go through but laying on your back in the foot well and trying to see up there is tough. You need to pull the **** to the on position then push in the button to get it to release.

Ugh! Maybe I'll just leave that until there is more reason to pull the dash. I didn't know it would be such an ordeal.

This is how it sits up in the dash

You'd have to squeeze your hand up in there

" The button can be hard to press " I have a new switch and can not believe how hard you have to press that little button. I finally put a dime over it and pushed on the dime so I would not make a hole thru my thumb.

When you change out the light switch make sure that the vacuum hoses are connected to the correct port.
You don't want to install the dash and find out the hoses are reversed.

Oh ya. Good point. I wrote right on my original which hose went where. I got that idea from someone on here

A little bit of important information I seldom see mentioned.... to get the **** to release pull the **** out as if you are turning the headlights on, than push in the button, at which point you will be able to finish pulling the **** all the way out.

If you don't follow those steps in that order the **** will not release.
