I purchased the car in 1975 with 27,000 miles, daily driver for 2 years.
Never drove the car with a disconnected speedometer.

Sept. 2, 2002, 55,354 miles
Sept. 3, 2014, 55,370 miles
Today Jan. 6, 2016, 55,380 miles
But your car isn't for sale on Craigslist or eBay, is it? I've looked at dozens of C3 Vettes over the last two years, and without exception, every vehicle that was claimed to have less than 100K had turned over at least once, if not twice. Some had been cosmetically restored, making assessment more difficult, but when the little tell-tale signs were combined with the car's history, it was obvious they weren't real. You apparently have an exceptional vehicle, but that isn't typical of the used car market. Most Vettes from the late '60s and early '70s have been well-used, not stored. Anyone who takes a seller's word for mileage under 100k on a 40 year old car probably has a one in a thousand chance of getting it right.

Isn't that because it's about to turn to 28,000?

It's actually a tell tale sign that the "7" is about to become an "8."

I totally agree with your statements!
If I were looking to purchase a C3 today, I would only go by condition and common sense.

71 Green 454 said "If I were looking to purchase a C3 today, I would only go by condition and common sense." Totally agree. My 68 has 19 K on the odometer (replacement speedo with odometer that does not work), but 48 years on the body. I have a brand new speedometer that I will install later this week, so I will have a really low mileage car, but still 48 years on the body. Sort of like an older woman with a new facelift.

Why aren't the 9's higher too? They're going to become zeros.

Or... it is about to change over, and that is how the mechanism looks when the cog is about to spin over the new number. I'll take another picture tonight.

Thanks guys i just want a good driver and a pretty convertible so i can take to the car show and cruse in's but i also want to be able to get most of my money back if i ever sold it.Just like a good deal and a good car withour getting burned, dont care to pay a little extra for a nice car and enjoy it ever year.I like all the old corvette's and hope i can get in a good car without laying under it everday working on it.
I dont care to do work and i know anything i do buy it will need work but just trying to find something i can enjoy and be half way dependable. They all will need some work at sometime or other.
Seems like according to you guys if i can buy this car for around 30 and it is what he says it is i cant go wrong.

Car is legit guys I looked at it a day or so ago and car needs a little TLC is all. Car was partically restored 15 years ago and still looks great, paint 8 of 10.Needs a heater core, rear end seal leaking a little, master cylinder leaking some just normal little stuff were it was not drove much after restore.Best frame I ever seen under a old car it is unbelievable almost looks like a new one was put under it but was the orginal frame.Motor CZU, match numbers and casting 3963512,also matches on block, orginal cab comes with the car but not on it.
Also has tank sticker but most of it has fallen to pieces but still read some of it.Have the papers to the orginal owner and were he bought it new and around 18,000 dollars worth of receipts were was spent on the car by this owner now.3 owner car but the 2 owner just bought it and didn't drive it none let it set since 1980 before this guy bought it and had it somewhat restored. Also have the orginal plate form 1980 were it was last taged,(what about that).Everthing works like it should, lights, fiber optics, heat wipers, etc, etc, even the clock works.Trans was rebuilt also with new clutch and all when restored. I belive the 54,000 miles to be correct because the car is just to clean and not beat to death and under it is almost like new.Like the guys said just use my common sense and judgement and go from there on the car by looking at it and examining it.
Going to pick it up in just a few days shock hands and agreed on a deal if nothing don't happen.Got the car at a decent price,i think.
When I get it home I will start working on some now and then I may need some help from you guys on some things on this car so I might be asking you fellows.
Not going to say much on the price but with the info I give you guys what would be a fair price, not to much and not give away on this car that you would have payed for it.Just wonder if I done ok on it,becasue I don't have money to through away and was not born RICH so had to work most of what I have out in my life.Always like these car and wanted one around 1970,i did have a 77 and a 81 when I was younger, bought used of course.Hope I stumbled on a half way good deal anyway.

If you bought it in the 30's you've done real well. Have the seller bring the tag up to date as part of the deal.

Hope you put money down & have a sales agreement. I have had many sellers back out of a sale because someone else offered more money. If you found out the car was for sale others have too. I always pay for the corvette & get it out of the sellers garage as fast as I can. GOOD LUCK with the Corvette.

It looked like a nice car so you should be quite happy, congratulations! Without being specific on your price if you are happy that's all that should matter. My guess is you paid low $30's which in my book would be a good deal.

Thanks for posting...it's encouraging for me that BB C3 Convertibles are bringing that much. Glad to see some movement out there.
Enjoy your car!
