It's finally back home resting in the garage, yes, if I had an electric fan on it there would not have been as much damage, but hey, a new water pump, aluminum radiator, fan shroud, pulley, fan blade and clutch also new belts. The parts distributor didn't like the $1,500 repair bill but I think they realized that's cheaper than what a small claims court outcome would've been.

Curious if the pump was from China, were you able to find out. Too bad for the distributor being unhappy, maybe he will attempt to sell quality parts. Could have caused a serious injury if someone was working on the engine when the pump failed. Glad you got it repaired at no cost to you.
Yep, it was a China part. I'm gonna find a factory original and rebuild it for ease of mind.
I have to ask... who selected that part? You or your mechanic? Or a previous owner? I just installed new Ford brand shoes and drums brakes on the rear of our Escape. The Chinese shoes I had installed late last year were contaminated and ruined the drums in less than two months. The new shoes are US made, but even buying from Ford, the drums are Chinese. I've decided to sell the car.

I guess the supply situation is just as bad for them as it is for us. I spend hours sometimes searching for a non-Chinese part. It would be too much to expect the corner shop to do the same. The only solution seems to be do it yourself, or supply the parts if your mechanic will install them.
