It says.. " equipped with RARE 427/390 hp engine" that's a base 427 engine..there were 8,000 of those in 68.. whats rare about that? Now if it was the L88 , there were only about 75 of those... THATS RARE
I agree, a lot of hype by the seller. I suppose the price will be right for someone, but for what is offered it seems a little much....maybe in the 14k-16k range is a better starting point.
Hi,
If we could say that it takes $40k to restore this car really well, and the majority of the labor is done for free, we end up with a $63k, 68 big block convertible. Pushing the upper limit?
If it's bought for $13k instead, but the scenario is the same, the $53k total is a bit easier to swallow.
If the car goes off to a restorer, and things are done very well, that $40k is passed and who ever is paying the bill better REALLY want this car.
I guess/hope the buyer for this car would have thought this through?
Regards,
Alan

I agree with John.
My quick look indicates a car with 427_ _ _ would have been built during the end of July or the first part of August.

This is an odd car that needs absolutely nothing, but it also needs everything.
I'm not a huge originality guy, but if I had the time/money/inclination, I'd be more than happy to purchase this car and attempt to 'restore' it with nothing purchased other than consumable parts. Keep as much as possible of what's there. A labor of love with minimal investment beyond...well...labor. And lots of it.
Great car, but it's a tough price point as it sits. Being the seller, you would feel like you're DUMPING it for $14k, but as is correctly pointed out, there is a massive amount of effort that would need to go into this car to do it any justice.

Is the gas tank story okay with everyone? I guess if bronze paint is under the red then it's okay. An individual doing all the resto work himself, and giving himself an incredible deal on labor, might make it all work if he can scoot in at 12 or 13K. I pulled the gas tank on my '70 big block vert and stored the entire tank with sticker on it in a safe environment.

I have insured my car with NCM since I got it on the road in 2014. It need to increase the agreed value, but when I saw how much they jacked up my rates this year just for what I have, I am shopping around now.

you will have more into that car than what it is worth
