Default Replacing Engine

The original engine was a two-piece rear main seal. Try to replace with a one-piece rear main seal engine. The oil pan is hitting the steering cylinder. Which is keeping the engine from setting into place. Any suggestions on how I can solve this problem. This is a 1979 L82.

Corvette oil pans are different than other GM pans. Someone else that's familiar with the difference between the two engines (one piece and two piece seals) will have to chime in on whether or not the pans are interchangeable.

I had to buy a Canton pan from Summit. Perfect.

I installed a crate ZZ4 with one piece main in my wife's 78 L82 a number of years ago and it slid right in. I had the idler arm unbolted from the frame at the time to get steering clearance for the install but once in I have an inch and a half or more clearance with everything bolted up as the drop in the pan is behind the steering.

Default I got an oil pan from a later model chevy passenger car...

when I installed a Ram Jet 350 in my 68 I looked around a while and finally went to a boneyard and just got a later (mid 1990s I believe) gm passenger vehicle (I forget what, but it was a larger low vehicle). anyway, the 1-piece rear main seal oil pan that I got fit fine below the steering assembly.

Just take your old oil pan with you and you can find one with a similar shape to fit.

As stated above, the ZZ4 oil pan fits our Corvettes. Lou.
