I need to fix my floppy side view mirror on my 71, I know I need to soak it some gas to get the mirror off, what do you do to tighten it up and what to use to glue it back on.

I made a little frame out of 2x4 used a plate and a bolt and pushed the plate that goes over the ball down so I could make a shim to stick under rivet and jb welded as others have done. The guy at the local glass shop glued it for me don't know what he used. I used Black RTV on another car and glass fell out about 6 years later.
The 'usual' method of tightening up the mirror head is to make some "U" shaped metal shims and shove them under the [loose] hot-upset heads. That should tighten them up for some time. {Nothing is permanent.}
ok, so I dumped the paint thinner and soaked it in gas the mirror feel out overnight, I beaned the rivets down and it tightened it up. For how long we will see.
Thanks for all of the ideas
