I have a chance to buy a 79 L82, but sadly with an automatic black Makovette with only 38K miles on it. It has been transformed with sidepipes with was NOT an option in 79. The black shows wear from the years but it sits as it was born but W/OUT a standard trans. The front nose has some damage but for 2K, I think it's worth picking up to add to what I have already.
I know this was the biggest production year but I still think it's something to grab?

Well.I just noticed ..something is wrong with this thing..the owner took my offer but I came back home and checked the VIN...
It should have a L48..the lower horsepower but it doesn't...
so maybe I should pass this up

No I was wrong the VIN code matches the engine and the block code matches...its a true L82
Did you have a chance to look at frame or look at problem areas of birdcage? Exterior and interior are acceptable, but if the frame or cage is gone, its not worth much at all. What you looking to do with it?

Nothing at all.just leave it as it was born..I do think I might change the trans out..and keep the original with the car always, but, I can paint and do glass work and restore, but ....I would like to just park it and only drive occasionally..

There are many much more knowledgeable here than I am, but here's what I would look at. The fiberglass panels are supported by a steel " birdcage" frame. If this frame is rusted/damaged, its not much fun to repair. (Very extensive work) With a flashlight I think you can check around windshield area. In the kick panels on driver and passenger side is a body mount - check this area. I've heard to lay a paper towel down and shut the door a few times to see if rust falls into it. The doors should not sag and should latch solidly with no rattling. Look at the frame in front of the rear wheels at the kickups/risers area. This is a very condensed version, search the forum as its discussed in depth.
Its worth more than 2000$ in parts isnt it? Even if the frame was bad and the birdcage? Not that I am saying to part it out, but if something is horribly wrong with it you could always get your money back ?

have you ever taken one of these apart? I mean all the way apart, it`s a awful lot of work and a rusty frame/birdcage make it even more work, it`s $2k for a reason.
BTW to the OP, try typing "Corvette birdcage" into your browser
