Default New calipers...

Hello,

It's been forever since I posted here but need some help if I should go further.
I ordered some new calipers due to the seals were leaking on one and the other was leaking where they split in half. My question is they are different... One looks like a brand new casting and the other looks like a standard rebuild. I have done many brake jobs in my life but have never seen this. Will I have any weird issues I have attached some pictures.
Here is the odd ball one looks like new casting

Here is the norm that I usually see

You'll be installing two different physical (housing) size calipers On the same axle? If so, Why risk that the hydraulic response will consistently and sufficiently match each other? And could possibly pull to one side..., etc... especially when the car needs to STOP NOW.

As others have said, the new "looking" one is an aftermarket caliper, not a rebuilt GM Delco casting. That doesn't mean that it's new though, as aftermarket calipers get rebuilt too. It also doesn't necessarily mean that it's Chinese, as there have been aftermarket caliper castings for almost as long as there have been GM ones.

The largest rebuilder of Corvette calipers in the hobby, rebuilds both Delco and aftermarket calipers. He usually holds the Delco castings for Corvette parts vendors, and sends the aftermarket castings to your FLAPS (friendly local auto parts store).

Did you get the calipers from your FLAPS or a Corvette vendor? Did they both come from the same place, and did they both say they were rebuilt, on the packaging they came in?

I would guess that the odd one is a rebuilt aftermarket caliper. There are reproduction Delco castings being made, but I don't know of any of the typical aftermarket companies (A1 Cardone, Centric, etc) still making them. Even Delco only offers rebuilt calipers now.

As you stated "most" if not all calipers are rebuilt in a centralized location, but yes they were purchased at a FLAPS store. I used to buy the majority of my parts from Napa or a locally owned home town parts store but I seemed to have a couple years of bad parts over and over again so I quit giving them the premium cost that I felt they had earned over the years.
If anything I can return the it and just order another one. This is just an alarm that went off for me.
Thanks guys

All of the new GM Restoration Delco Moraine calipers come from one place. Everyone must buy them from him, including several of the big name vendors here. The flaps don't buy from him. The difference in the rebuilt calipers from the flaps is the quality of the seals and the pistons.
The two calipers in the above pics did not come from him. He doesn't use those pistons.

If you keep these calipers or get your money back and get another set.is up to you.

I have disassembled calipers that were FRESHLY rebuilt and never used when customer sometimes bring me parts to install.....and when the calipers look diffect on the exterior...or condition of the exposed pistons....It raises concerns with me.

So when I took the pistons/seals out...they were different....meaning... one would have the original lipped seals in them and the other 'O' ring design. And I have seen this in the SAME CALIPER.

BUT...my main concern for you is that you make sure you check the rotor run-out...so your brake system is within specs. Because ..regardless if it is an original lipped seal design or the aftermarket 'O' ring design....it is WISE to get you rotor run out correct. ESPECIALLY if you are using the lipped seal design.

And hopefully the condition of your brake fluid in the master cylinder is good also and not full of a lot of sludge ...which is not good for the new seals.

Rotors run-out was good 12 miles ago that's how many were put on the car since October or so, now I may never pull a caliper apart just to check it out and make sure it's legit that is what I'm paying a QA department to check before something is shipped to a vendor. But the master is new and new lines too. I had the rear hoses break down so replaced them all October of 2015 and blew the lines kit then went through the process of bleeding more than I ever want to again so there better be clean fluid in there. But I'll probably go through a bottle more it's just how I do things. Anyone can survive a engine or transmission malfunction but brakes not so much is why I initially was alarmed at what I saw.
Again thank you for the information it's still winter time, no snow, but to wet to just hurry it up

Seems like from what i read ...you are in good shape...in regards to new master cylinder, lines, etc.

I AGREE...I am really picky about MANY things on a Corvette....but when it comes to brakes...I am really SUPER PICKY...and the same goes for fuel systems...and so on.
