Default Rocker Panel Trim

Will the rocker panels on a 1970 fit a 1969? Can't get them for a '69 so I'm looking for options until a can get the correct set!

Thanks

Gus

Yes, the 70-77 rockers, can be used on your 69. I don't recall if you need to move a couple mounting holes, but it can be done and others have.

If you really want the correct 69 rockers, you may want to hold off just a little longer. I had checked on them for someone about 4-6 weeks ago, and was told that the 4 piece rocker set was do in "soon". I may be able to get an update tomorrow, to see if soon is realistic.

I see them available at every swap meet. They show up on ebay periodically as well. (theres a set there now, but overpriced). Be patient, you can get a nice used set.

I've had the correct '69 set on order for months and they keep pushing back the delivery date!! Last delivery date is the end of March but I'm not hold my breath. The car looks naked without them and I would really like to have something on the car for the summer. I'll hold off ordering a '70 set until early summer.

Thanks for the help!

Gus, the solution is to just put some factory side pipes on it!!!

Good luck... GUSTO

Wow Gusto, that does look good!! How many times have you torched your legs? I raced a dragster for years with up-swept headers and it wasn't if, it was how many times. I've still got some nasty scares. You'd think you would learn!!

Gus, unfortunately this is not my car. I am restoring my mid-year and adding side pipes to it... I'll let you know how it goes.

A good friend did add these side pipes to his 1977 many years ago and loved them. But then he was always a "long-pants" kind'a guy.

I do still have a small scar from a motorcycle from back in my youth however...

Good luck... GUSTO

I like the "factory look" better.....but I bought these for now......

no burns after 3 hours of hard driving...........

but.....then again....I ride a Harley and have learned to stand a few inches away from shiny hot objects when entering/exiting...climbing on/climbing off vehicles.....

I also touched the shields on purpose to have an idea of the heat---not enough to burn exposed calf skin but just warm enough to make one aware!

Hi Gus,
The 69 side exhaust shown in Gusto's pictures DON"T scorch the back of your calf.
The original pipes/muffler had a separate insulator and then the chrome shields you see that were attached to the insulators.
The problem now is the COST of the reproduction of this system. $$$$
The original price of the option was $147.45!!!
The whole rocker trim panel situation seems to have become an issue for all the 68-72 cars. Either they're not available at all, or of low cosmetic and material quality.
Regards,
Alan

I talked to the company that is making the 69 rockers this morning, and they are now saying they expect them in April. Final approval has been given on the samples, so hopefully it's now just a matter of getting them made, and shipped in?

As an FYI, the repro 70-77's have been out of stock to, but they tell me that they are in transit, and should be available within a few weeks.

I've had the stock 69 side pipes on a few different cars, and can't say that I've ever been burned on them. The factory side pipes use a pot metal cover, with a insulation panel inside of it, between the pipes and the covers. The biggest drawback to the factory side pipes, is the price, as the covers run about $2400 and the pipes another $600. (I just went to proof read my post, and found that that darn Alan, beat me to it, with an explanation of the pipes)

I understand your worries though, as I too have scars on my legs, from the side pipes on road racing Corvettes I've crewed on.
