Looking for someone in Canton, Ohio or near by, to do a PPI on a car I'm interested in. Any one have any recommendations or maybe someone you have used?
Also any idea what a PPI typically costs?
Thanks.
Hi mph,
I'd think knowing the year of the car, a few details about it, and whether you're buying from an individual or a dealer might help folks decide who they might suggest.
Are you looking for someone who does this as a profession or just another enthusiast?
Regards,
Alan

1982 Collector's Edition. At a dealer. Looking for someone to put their eyes on it prior to traveling to see it myself, for an independent opinion other than just the dealers. Would be willing to compensate or pay for a PPI.

Good idea......and worth every dime! (I'm guessing a couple $hundred for a competent shop at current hourly rates to do a good inspection.....DRIVING it is important also!)

Agree and thought for you.
Find a Corvette Club in the area or the local NCRS chapter and ask if somebody knowledgeable in C3's would be interested in taking a look and providing photos&report for payment. This would be the absolute best $100 you could spend.
Hi MPH, I'm about an hour from Canton and may be able to help. I'm more then competent on inspecting the mechanical, structural integrity, body, etc. If you are looking for all original / NCRS type stuff, I would have to do some research and get documentation to look into as that is not quite my area.
"Kubs" is the only other member that is closer in Akron that I can think of. ..he may also know of a business if you were leaning that way.

Thanks for the response and the offer to possibly help.
I'm waiting on some more photos and some additional information I have requested. If everything falls into place, I might ask for your help in just putting a knowledgeble eye on the car and giving me your opinion on the overall condition/appearance. This is not NCRS type stuff.
If it's ok, at that time I would PM you to discuss.

MPH- I paid $249 for carzinspection.com to send a guy to look at a car in TX- I'm in VA. They sent a lot of photos, drove the car and verified it was not completely mis-represented. But- even though the inspector supposedly was a car collector, they missed a lot of things that would have required someone really familiar with Corvettes to spot- mostly electrical problems. Best if someone from this forum can help you, if possible.
i was going to suggest making arranements to have the car driven to a local shop and put up on the lift, but since it's at a dealer that's very convenient.
ask the dealer to put it on a lift, to have the wheels removed. you can check brake lines, parking brake components, brake pads and rotors, front wheel bearings, a more thorough check for frame rust, sway bar and leaf spring bushings, crash damage (on one car i looked at a section of frame had been replaced), rear trans seal leak, more ..............
