I have a 70 vette and the number on the driver A pillar is not a correct VIN number. Any way to find the original vin #. Engine is not original either. Has a new crate 350.
Thanks for any help

A VIN derivative is stamped on the transmission provided the tranny is original. The frame is also stamped in two places with a VIN derivative, but the locations are very difficult to see with the body on the frame.
There may be a vehicle certification sticker on the driver's door.
Hi wi,
Welcome!
If the car still has it's original frame you may be able to see one of the 2 partial VIN stamps on the top surface of the left side frame rail.
The one near where the driver sits can't be seen with the body in place but the one near the #4 body mount can be seen.
The second one can't always be read though.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Hi wi,
MA for the state of Massachusetts?
Here's what you're looking for on the transmission (side of the case's flange on a 4-speed, Automatic transmissions are stamped too.
Regards,
Alan
Larger digits describe when the transmission was assembled and in what configuration, and the smaller digits are a partial VIN. The same stamp/gang holder was used to stamp the engine pad and the transmission in St.Louis.

Hi,
When you see the tool, the box of loose stamps, the heavy glove, and the lead? hammer…. you can begin to understand the variations and errors that occurred on the engine pads.
