I am repairing an 82 special edition corvette with extensive front end damage. I have the front end removed, and the body is off the frame. The firewall is cracked in multiple places, and I need to know the right way to fix this. Can I fiberglass over the cracks, does the firewall have to be removed, or do I need to replace the firewall. I found a firewall from a 79 at a junkyard, but don't know if it is the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would fix it like it was for myself. That would mean I would replace it.I would call a junk yard and ask them if the fire wall is the same as a 79 .78-82 are close on a lot of things.Willing to bet its the same .
What do you know about fiberglass repair? Do you know the proper procedures for crack repair? Why not purchased a couple of the fiberglass How To books and read through them for a little back ground information?
FWIW: the last thing you want to do is to attempt to remove and replace an entire firewall.

Hi ws,
Earlier firewalls are made up of several pieces… later?
Depending on where the damage is, and how confined it is, you might be able to replace parts of it at bonded seams.
