Im trying to locate the owner of my 1976 Stingray. I had to sell it for insurance reasons a couple years ago. I know the vin and general area it was sold in. I also have the phone number of the man who bought it at the insurance auction. He fixed it and sold it but does not have any records of who he sold it to. Is there a website that shows who the name or address of who currently owns my vehicle?
Still had my stickers from highschool on the back. My original keys still started it up.
I purchased it when I was 15 and totaled it when I was 17/18. Insurance took it and a guy from my town saved it from the scrapper and repaired it in his garage. I found it on Craigslist but, I wasn’t able to purchase it at that time. Didn’t have the money and he sold it to someone.
Tracked down the guy he sold it to a few years later after several VIN checks. Ended up going to the DMV where they provided me with the first and last name of the current owner. Found him on Facebook and have been bugging him about selling it ever since. He’s only about an hour from where I wrecked it.
3 years ago he said he doesn’t drive it much at all anymore and he can’t work on it due to his age and would let me know whenever he got around to selling it.
I shot him a message out of the blue while I was back home for the holidays and to my surprise, he was ready to part with it finally.
I felt like I was 15 again when I saw it. I’m never letting this one go. I thought I would be in my 50s before I would get to drive it again.
Took of the T Tops for the drive home and tears were rollin.
In which state was the car the last time you knew? You could try a title search with that state's DMV. You may be able to tell whether the car is still titled and registered, but the DMV will probably not be able to release any owner personal information.

I am amazed the DMV gave out info. The one here in Texas never has and never will. I'd like to find my first corvette one day, but since I don't have the vin I doubt I ever will.
