How many 454 4sp they make in 74? 29k miles. No way would I convert anything. Now you have mentioned "conversion kit" a few times. I'm not aware of anyone making a kit to convert a soft bumper car to chrome, and most of the fab jobs I have seen did not look good. Options from my view:

1a. Repair bumper, blend and buff existing paint and get the car in good driving condition and sell as a survivor. The low miles, 454 and 4spd will attract buyers. Then buy a chromey!

1b. Same as 1a but sell as is.

2. Fully restore it and keep and enjoy with minor upgrades like you suggested; wheels etc. and enjoy it in memory of your dad!

Me? I would go option #2. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

You can come drive it anytime you want and it will stay all original.

Seriously, think about it,

Hey Don,

I would be willing to sell you the car. But I just went through a similar request with another member. I'm not fully sure what this car should be sold for. He offered me 8-10k. Truthfully I found that to be an insulting offer. My buddy that works at chevy has personally offered 15k, and I know his motive is to restore it and sell it for a nice profit. As that's his side business. Now I know he won't restore a car unless he makes a min of 10k.
If you are seriously interested. We can talk further. However if you going to comin in with a low offer, it simply won't work.
I do know this car is some what of a special combo. Last year of 454. 4 on the floor. Vert. Ac. Tilt stering. It has it all. Fully optioned out. And it's got 29k original miles. It does need a restoration. But it's a hell of a base to start with. Pm or email me if your serious. Drrobbio87@yahoo.com

Hey,

I am agreeing with your #2 option. It's an awesome car, I think I'll just have to pick up a chromey down the line. Add it to the collection in due time...

If I can sell as-is for enough, I would do it. My dad is still with us, thankfully. And he would be part of a new one.

The company that puts out the conversion parts is this.

Sounds like a fine plan..I have a C5 as well and part owner of a 67 coupe project. There is never too many.

My apologies for assuming... so glad he is still with you!

That company makes stuff for the front also. If you look through the webside they have lots of different options. I did not realize how different they look side by side though. After a few hours of looking at and comparing stuff. The silly conversion idea if off the drawing board.

It's either to restore the 74 with minor upgrades. Just to make it a more fun driver. Realistically oem didn't offer a ton of power or handling.

Or sell it and replace it with a true chromey.

I have to say I feel like I'm going to start ordering parts to begin the resto. I do appreciate and value that its my dad's. That might just be the best reason of all to keep it. He likes the chromeis quite a bit also. But he did drive this one off the factory floor. The nostalgia behind it is pretty cool.

If the right buyer came along. A deal could be made. As of now it's not listed anywhere. I just have a hard time listening to these low ball offers.

You should restore it then get the money for the effort. You can drive it along the way as well.

Those can be tweaked with "minor modifications"

You're not sure what it's worth, but you're insulted by the offer? Even if you did have a firm idea as to what it's worth, why get upset? It's simply an offer... If it doesn't appeal to you, simply decline it.

"It's not personal... It's strictly business."

My buddy that works at chevy has personally offered 15k, and I know his motive is to restore it and sell it for a nice profit. As that's his side business. Now I know he won't restore a car unless he makes a min of 10k.
You should have taken his offer.

A really, really nice '74 454 convertible with all the options sold on this forum last year for $25,000. The going rate on these cars seems to be in the $30,000 range... Maybe more for the right color combination/documentation. You might be able to make a few dollars if you fix the bumper covers and clean the car up a bit, but you aren't going to restore a car you paid $15,000 for, plus the cost of the restoration, plus make a $10,000 profit... Not to mention what you value your time at.

I do know this car is some what of a special combo. Last year of 454. 4 on the floor. Vert. Ac. Tilt stering. It has it all. Fully optioned out. And it's got 29k original miles. It does need a restoration. But it's a hell of a base to start with.
It IS a really cool car. Unfortunately, the prices on the 1973-1974 cars haven't really taken off yet. It has all of the neat options that you state, but as you also mention, it needs a restoration... And if selling the car is the route you want to pursue, it will have to be priced accordingly.

Stan Falenski

As much as I love the chromies , I would not convert that car. It is a great corvette the way it is and it has family history.

Oh- here's what the car is worth... Contrary to popular belief these cars haven't really moved in price in the past 10 years.

I checked the values of my 82 .

I love that car. 74's are cool. Get it in good running condition and drive it. Restore it if you like. And I have a 68 BB... Wish it had air, though...
By all means, PLEASE do not butcher that car.
