At the shop, the Snap On tool truck guy, turned me on to the specialty tool for getting plugs out on my C4 LT1. It's for the '90's Jimmy's and Chevy's with the V6, but it works absolutely awesome in getting out angled plugs out from behind header tubes and can even get the back plug out (on the passenger side, not the drivers). $43 bucks, but I'll spend that, to save me a whole lot of grief. I use it a lot. The socket is just the length of the insulator and that's it. So if a plug will fit, so will this.

I've used something similar, a spark plug socket with a hex head and a ratcheting 3/4 inch wrench. It'll allow you to get in places without removing other equipment like A/C compressors. Just takes a little patience.
The problem with the plug wires was that they put the front four wires in between the engine and the motor mounts, on a 82 c3, not sure about other years....
After reading similar threads before replacing the plugs on my '79 L82 I thought it was going to be really bad.
I found it FAR easier than other things I'd done before and have done after!
Wobble extensions. Lots of extensions. Universal joint. Some from above, some from below with simple drive-on ramps enough for even my big gut
Only took a couple hours but I did use a helper (from the bottom) for about two minutes to guide in the front left plug as I tightened it from the top.
