Interesting info! Im sure i had a good reason for not putting it in the head originally...I'm just not sure what it was. I do know i bought that housing with the goal of using it for my fan switch. I want able to get the metric sensor to work with out though so i abandoned that idea.

I will move it this weekend. Is it safe to say it will read hotter here than in the head ( with tstat open)?

Depending on the cylinder heads...the area for the temp sensor may be a different size...and getting one that will fit...may not be correct in how it sends the OHM signal to your gauge. I had this happen on a Corvette due to the aftermarket sensor was throwing the temp gauge 100 degrees off. So the gauge had to be adjusted to the new sender so it read correctly.

And the pipe threads in your head and engine are not metric in this particular scenario.

The metric sensor is just the fan. Temp sender to gauge is a stock replacement. Putting the bmw switch in the heads is a no-go without drilling and tapping. There is an adapter, but the sensor won't sit far enough in the hole if i use that. I may play around with the fan setup a bit yet. This seems to be working right now though.

Why are you using a BMW switch for the fan(s)????

It's a two stage switch for a two stage fan instead of using two separate switches.
