Default Center T-top pad

1976 - Replacing some interior components. How do you remove the center T-top pad? I though it would just fall down when the rear screws and front windshield pad were removed - nogo. Do I need to remove the exterior chrome trim first?

Hi Mike,
I believe you'll find there are 3 (?) studs mounted to the underside of the pad.
Riveted to the birdcage member there are 3 clinch plates with holes in them.
The plates 'grab' the stud to hold the trim in place. A quick but gentle pull straight down usually releases the studs.
If you look carefully at the vinyl side of the trim you can often see signs (a small indentation) at the location of the studs. Use them as a guide to know just where to put your hands to 'pull'.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
