Default too loud!

I have side pipes with classic chambered louvered inserts. I LOVE the sound...unfortunately the wife does not! When i start it up kids start crying! Especially if it's in the garage.

Has anyone used the sound deadening wrap on these type of mufflers? How much difference did you notice? I don't want it quiet...but down a few decibels would be good. Love to hear from someone with experience on them.

My wife has never complained about the Vettes - all three were her idea. I installed a chambered exhaust a while back and she did not like it - I like my 2 ½" Pypes system with a crossover pipe much better anyway!!!

i don't know if this response helps but i installed two layers of muffler bandage, not really much to them, on my flex pipe connectors off the headers and it has made a world of difference in the tone and volume.i'm running flowmaster 40's so i am somewhat deaf already to begin with.

If you like the sound then don't change anything. She doesn't have to drive with you. I like sidepipes and I like loud. I don't have any neighbors and I usually drive by myself. When the wife and I go out, we bring a regular car. She really doesn't mind the pipes though

I'd prefer she would ride with me...plus the sound coming into and leaveing the garage wakes the kids. I wouldn't mind it a little quieter myself. Appreciate all the input but would appreciate some feedback on the sound deadening wrap.

I made a set out of 2.5 inch Cherry Bombs. They sound good but are not as loud as the 2.5 inch Sweet Thunder inserts that I started with. Do what you need to to keep the kids involved in your hobby. The cruise nights are just that much better with family there with you.

You could try these in addition to your current mufflers if you can fit them into your system. I'm using the 3", 3 disk, inserts and I'm really pleased with them as secondary mufflers/tone tuning devices.

This is a 4 disk version for even more sound reduction.

They even sale stainless steel packing material for increased sound reduction and individual parts to make your own custom inserts.

Don't know if they still sell these? THEY WOULD WORK!!!

Actually still make them for motorcycles-

I have fabbed up my sidepipes to go from 2 ½" straight pipes to reverse spiral flow w/ some electric cut outs. I have it mocked up- but haven't finished them out...So I'l be able to go anywhere from loud to quite with a switch.

The exhaust enters the 3" pipe- with the valve closed the exhaust will have to spiral around the center straight pipe.

I am gonna have to agree with you I dont like them too loud. Loud pipes are fine on a 67 Chevelle or a GTO but not on a Vette in my opinion. These cars are precision killers carving up the corners and out accelerating virtually any street car and a mellow rumble just fits them so well. I'm sure I will get flamed but thats just my opinion. To each his own.

That's what i have been doing. Still too loud and wife won't ride along. My son loves the car, but doesn't want to be around it when it's running. That's a problem for me. I want to encourage the family into the car culture with me...not run them off.

Men use to league bowl or go to card nights ect . Treat the vette that way and explain it that way . It is really that simple and if they decide to be part of the culture then cool but dont change the car if it is what you like.

the kids will grow up and that will take care of the problem. Plus you should never baby your kids because then they will like mustangs.
