I can't tell from the picture, but almost all GM's I have ever seen have had it stamped on the case somewhere. Your pic makes me think it has been painted, so it may be under that.
I may be young (21) and inexperienced (this is my first post on a car forum ever) but I have an '82 that I've been working on with my uncles and can tell you that the above is spot on.
That said, I read that 70A was stock when I had to get mine replaced and that if its the original part you should be fine. Those numbers should be right under the tensioner bolt on the belt side but can't tell from that picture. You're looking for something like a "70A" stamped on it
What's wrong with the wiring? I found the numbers on the front of the alternator I couldn't see it cause it was a little dusty
wiring looks like crap, broken insulation, missing plugs, crimp connectors, etc.
your alternator is a 10si, they came in 37,42,55,61, and 63 amp versions. if you had AC, and was a 70 amp stock, it would have been a 12si alternator. what you have is not original, and old (notice the smaller rear bearing), and since it's been painted and rebuilt, the wiring hacked, it's anybody's guess what is actually inside that case. the case may not even be a GM case as over the years they have been cloned in rebuild houses...
