Default 80-81 68 door button????

in traffic I see what appeared a 80-82 but it had odd door buttons, it looked like 68 door buttons were where the locks would be, the area around the button was not recessed like a 68...anyone heard of someone doing that mod?

Back in the early 80's, going to work I would see a guy driving a 74 coupe all the time, that had a 68 door on the driver's side. I never met the owner, but I always just figured that the car needed a door and he got a good deal on a used 68 one?

I do not believe this is a 68 door it wasn't recessed around the button...

I have never seen or heard of that 'mod'.

I am sure you know how the button has to be installed in a 68 door to work. So why someone would go through all that is beyond me...if they actually did it. I can appreciate the 1968 door button method...but I am glad that it is only on one year model...and having it recessed keeps the door 'cleaner' looking.

I know that would have 'caught' my eye also. Hopefully you see it again and can take a closer look.

I started thinking about it, the 68 button is higher on the door of a stock 68 than the 69-up lock, and the 69- lock hole is where this cat has what looked like a 68 button sticking out, this is what catches your eye it is really jutting out there, perhaps he is just using the lock part of it
