Default Replacing Dash Speakers

I recently picked up a 71 coupe. I want to add dash speakers since it doesn't appear that there are any in there or at least they don't work. I haven't tried to remove the dashpad yet but thought I'd ask the experts if there's anything I need to know before trying to take the top off the dash.

I haven't found a good picture/video based walkthrough of this yet so I'm just planning to leverage the assembly manual to figure it out.

I have an after market stereo and rears in the storage area but want something up front as well.

Also, and here's a crazy one for ya. I'm planning on putting in a rear camera to drive the pop up video screen on the head unit since the rear visibility isn't that great in the car. That should be fun...

Removing the dash pad isn't going to the biggest PITA, putting back the Drivers dash is a real nightmare with the dash lights popping out every time you try to mount it back up.
If you are having that problem, stop what you are doing and post a new ,message about replacing the dash light sockets...there is a member here who told be about it after I installed mine for the 10th (no lie) time and got them to stay.

Hopefully when you remove the upper dash pad, the speaker mounting brackets are there, mine weren't and had to source a used pair. I have seen them on Ebay a couple of times since then.

I put new Kicker Infinity 4x6's in the dash and the kick, some people have gone with 6" rounds, but you can't see mine so it looks more stock (not that the rest of the car is).

An 8" sub fits nicely in the rear jack hole too. My back wall is now holding 1200 watts of power for all my speakers. Good luck with your upgrade. Take lots of pictures as you go, you may need them for reassembly (especially the wire routing of the drivers dash.

Also, if you are so inclined, while your at it.....change out the dash bulbs to LED's, made a huge difference to me.

Avoid the dash speakers altogether and consider placing them in the kick panels instead...the sound that comes up from below is amazing, especially when coupled with a sub.

Dash speakers are only good for originality or a tweeter. If you enjoy music, go kick panels.
