Default Electric fan suggestions please

I want to get an electric fan setup for my 79. I would like to find a kit that has the least amount of install effort. I have looked in a couple places and havn't been very successful finding a kit made for the C3...but I actually havn't tried that hard. Suggestions?

You will get a lot of posts saying keep the stock fan, and I agree, if it's not broken why spend money to fix it, if you install a high end electric fan you will need an alternator that can keep up with it.
If you have a cooling issue an electric fan will not fix it, fix the problem then if you desire the electric fan go for it.

I am not one to do what fred did just because so I have done a lot of research and taken lots of heat ( no pun intended, okay a little pun ) on this subject when I became disillusioned with the old dual 11" spals everyone likes so much, they leave some radiator out and do not move that much cfm, many stock fans like the mark 5 and Taurus move more,

I settled on the

However, if your car is basically stock and you want the easiest to install set up it might just be that dual spal set up, it does fit well, it leaves some radiator uncovered which no matter how you word it is wasted but it seems to do the job for most people who have aftermarket larger aluminum radiators.

Shop around, be sure it's the real spal, lots of imports and some are real junk yet cats here have good luck with them just like the import aluminum radiators but no need to pay the high prices that some specialty houses ask for the very same spal dual 11" shop around the net and ebay.

Didn't you put an electric fan on your TA? then you can install one on the vette....

x2 on making sure its a real spal. They sell the switch/relay kits so its done correctly. Lots of cfm claims fail to mention the tests are done with no radiator in front of them

Bats those vents are nice, and paramount to avoid heating up at fwy spds, nice

Went to electric only due to space. If I could do it over again there would be a lightweight nylon mech fan and an electric on a temp switch with a toggle override "just in case".

Spal has a good rep but do not like the idea if a relay or??went out you are stranded.

Just an opinion but some of the best fans are GM stuff like off a late model truck etc make sure the wiring alt etc are all proper gauge and up to the task
Those fans I was speaking of Summit sells, they are cheap weigh a few oz not super noisy and move a ton of air. can take high rpm ALL day and not break. Holding it in your hand youd think it was a piece of junk. We used to run them on circle track cars that saw over 7k all night they lasted yrs still have a few

Everyones got their preferences all I can say is gauge watching is no fun

Dont care for watching the temp gauge go up....then back down when the fan kicks in mech fans always seemed to keep temp more constant

Yeah it's stock for now. Gonna do heads and a 268 cam sometime. I did put a fan on the T/A, but I was young and did a crappy job. I don't trust my wrenching skills like I used to.

FWIW: the 79 L-82 cars had a factory auxiliary electric fan which fit inside the factory shroud if you want to go that route. Might be easier on the pocketbook than after market.

I've seen that pic of the fans before. I think that's the one I was thinking about. Whos sells it?

I got my radiator and dual spals from DeWitts. Very good quality, not the cheapest but I'm happy with the setup

I added a spal dual 11 with a wiring harness from Summit. Mounted it to a Dewitts using aluminum angle and sheet metal screws purchased from the local hardware store. The Aluminum angle can be polished to a chrome finish which makes it look really nice. I had to be real careful with the screws not to ruin my radiator. Dewitts has a good thick line across top and bottom perfect for mounting to. Yours may not.

I just want to add that the dual 11 electric fans dropped my in traffic 220 temp down to 175. I was running a 5 blade HD clutch before.
