Default Help..1982 cf

There's always the one guy that shouldn't have bought a vette..well that's me. As a single dad with 2 kids I don't have the time to work on the car as much as i'd like. I've been taken for a ride with every mechanic I've been to. I'm having a starting problem and have gotten fed up with coming home on a tow truck. Usually car will start ..I'll drive it for short period come back to car then can't restart. It wont turn over..full cranking sound though. After a no start 6 months ago car just started on first try today. I've had the fuel pump and sender changed a year ago.
Does anyone know a reputable mechanic in the Nassau county Long Island NY area (perhaps Oceanside area)? I just want someone who knows what they are doing.
Thanks
Dan

sorry I don't know anyone in that part of the country.I would talk to others on what shop they use.Or spend a little time working on it your self .Find some one to give you some help in learning the car.youtube can help.I would only take it to a corvette shop.Theres a better chance they know your car .Other shops may be learning on your car.

Have you checked the computer for any stored error codes? Do you have a Chevrolet garage in your area?

Thank you Mike & Terry. There is a vette specialist not far from me but I've been told to stay away. Maybe I'll just try and find the time to tinker. Someone suggested I try and change the fuel pump again.

Dan read this info....but also contact a local vette club in your area. Find out who they use to work on thier cars.

??? This does not make sense. What did you mean to write? PLEASE write it so it makes sense.

YES..the fuel pump relay is behind the drivers seat...in the battery box area.

It depends if the relay is getting the signal from the computer to turn it on as needed when you turn the key on....so it is hard to actually 'say' why the engine will not crank and run.

AND...that FUSE you see in your battery box in the back right hand corner....THAT FUSE is IMPORTANT and IF you get the car running again....you will wan to touch and feel it and see if it is getting HOT. IF it is getting hot....then there is dirt or crap on the terminals ...thus causing for added resistance....thus causing for the heat. Simply remove the fuse and clean the terminals and re-install the fuse and check it again. This can cause for a voltage loss...thus...things may not run correctly or efficiently as needed.

Without you actually installing the fuel pressure gauge....you are just throwing your money and time away. KNOWING what the fuel pressure is can make ALL the difference.

FUEL pressure is critical on this type of engine.....or at east enough of it to make it run correctly due to it runs on a lot lower fuel pressure than the 1985 Tuned port engines.

Also...with you having this type of Corvette...you may need do buy a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL...and possibly some special tools. The reason is....IF you can not find someone WHO KNOWS this car/engine...and can work on it.....then you are throwing yourself to the 'wolves'. AND TRUST ME....you will wish you invested in some special tools lie a scanner and other tools so you can diagnose what may be wrong with it.

Working on fuel injected -computer controlled engines is one thing.....KNOWING what to do on a Cross-Fire and having the tools and knowledge to do it is COMPLETELY something different. It can be like trying to find someone to repair your 8-track tape player.

Default Vette shops

Not exactly around the corner in the area...but depending on how badly you want that car fixed right here are a couple of excellent Corvette shops: Probably worth the tow.
