Never done it but it's as easy as have someone hold the mirror to see where you want it, mark your 2 mount holes, drill holes in your door, insert well nuts, and put the mirror mounting plate, then the mirror itself on. It seems the consensus is since there is no metal backing plate you get a lot of vibration though.
I would make a paper template of the driver mirror.
cut to the shape of the door, then overlay it on the passenger door to ensure perfect symmetry.

As mentioned you get a paper template as part of the kit and lay down some low tack masking tape in the drill area.
I fitted one to my '71 LT-1 being in the UK it does help and I prefer the symmetry aspect as well. It's still solid after 8 years installed on just the well nuts.
