Default Another hood release issue!

I've searched and found some threads (and videos) about what happens when you pull the hood release and the DS opens, but the OS stays shut. You can't get your hands inside the windshield area, not that it would help because I have a cover on that cavity.
I think the cable broke that runs from the DS latch to the OS latch.
How do I get the latch open on the OS side?

It helps if you specify the year. I have a 78 and on each side on the firewall area, (the area where the wipers are) there is a grommet. Pop this grommet out and you should be able to see the latching mechanize. You can use a screw drive to pop the latch. Also some of the vendor site have instruction which will be much better than what I've provided. Good luck.

Sorry; 1982. Funny how the avatar doesn't list that.
Nevertheless, the hood on the 82 goes all the way up to the windshield and there's about 2 inches clearance there. Wouldn't help though. I have the cover that goes over the wiper recess area.

Got it! Lifted up on the driver side and grabbed the cable and popped the other side. I had the wife push down on that side and it released the tension so it would pop. The issue is that the plastic (that's a surprise) clip holding the sheath is broken. Looks like a new cable is in order! Thanks to those who listened.

Theres a thread somewhere around here that shows members that attached a second cable and let it hang down into the engine compartment or wiper well for this type of incident. I haven't done it yet but will be.

Congrats on getting it open

Thanks! I'm looking into that. I think if you just loop a cable around the latch and let it hang down between the engine and the wheel well, it would work.

Exactly. Some did that. Another put a grommet in the fire wall and ran it into the cabin. Another coiled it in with the wipers. I might try that.

Turn on the wipers and stop them in the vertical position, this gives you more room to access the latch mechanisms.
A screw driver works for the later models, there is a service bulletin for a home made tool to use on the earlier models

It is a good idea to locate the plastic plug and latch release. Practice unlatching it with the hood open .

When you install your new cable...due to it being so long...it IS important that the 2 black clips that go into the distributor black cover are still there. They HOLD the housing of the cable and thus allow the cable to work correctly because the housing can not flex and move...which will throw off how it works.
