I have a 72 and when I got her someone had removed the compressor and the mounting brackets but now after several weeks of work got everything back together and I'm ready to have the system charged and see how many leaks are going to show but I can't figure out how picture A (from wiring of system) fits onto picture B (bolt on compressor). I've looked everywhere and can't find or see how they fit together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bagger
Hi b,
What's the inside of the female connector look like?
Is there supposed to be a 'spade' terminal that's part of that nut that the rubber connector seats on?
Regards,
Alan
It just seems to be a rubber coupling. I didn't see where the wire comes through the rubber. I'll need to get a picture of the inside later today. Bagger
It looks like the wire to the super heat switch which is located just below the hose connection on the back of the comp. Some comp don't have one and the hole is plugged off.

It is the superheat switch connector. A/C systems of that era protected the compressor from low refrigerant and malfunctions in the refrigerant control usually the STV. When the SH switch detected low pressure it would ground heating the fuse strip in the thermal limiter, breaking the circuit to the compressor switch. All A/C had them. Most of them were disconnected or bypassed.
My 73 Camaro is wired for one, but my 75 Corvette is not. I 'm no expert on this so I don't know, but it is not plugged with a screw. I think I have a plug
Replacement compressore came with the plug shown by oledave, it had to be removed and the superheat switch placed in its place.
Many times the plug stayed in the replacement compressor and the compressor clutch was rewired to eliminate the superheat switch and thermal limiter. The safety system was a real PITA.

The thermal limiter is a small black thermal fuse, usually located near the rear of the compressor, near the suction line to the compressor, it has a black wire (from the superheat switch), one dark green wire with a white stripe and a dark greem wire in the connector. Connect the 2 green wires together, this eliminates the limiter and runs power directly to the compressor clutsh If you have a GM service manual for 1972, the schematic is on page 1A-58
