I think this has been covered before but can't find it. I found the problem with my 70 vette's wipers. It turned out to be the relay switch on the firewall. Now the wipers do not return all the way down and the wiper door hits them when closing. When I turn the key off they continue down to where they are suppose to be.How do I adjust to correct this? I tried adjusting the throw on the relay switch, but it still hits. Thanks for any ideas on this, Rob
I think the key here is that the wiper door closes before the blades fully retract. The vacuum limit switch (in the cowl at the far pass side) is not functioning properly. If that switch is working, the wiper arm must depress the switch's plunger before the vacuum is applied to the actuator and the door closes.
Hi ct,
This the 3 Port Interlock Switch which jnb describes.
The 2 bolts that attach it to the small bracket on the cowl allow some up/down adjustment. There's also a 'little' adjustment on the 2 nuts that mount the bracket to the cowl studs.
It needs to be moved down (away from/forward) from the lever on the wiper transmission so the wiper arm is further down before this Interlock Switch signals the door relay that it should close the door.
Have you had any success trying to reposition the switch?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The appearance with the wiper door mechanism in place but the wiper grill and door removed.
Wiper door mechanism removed. (You don't have to remove it to adjust the switch.)
The Switch, the lever has pushed the plunger to the "close door" position. This position is only achieved when the wiper motor has moved to its 'park' position
thanks for all the help. Alan, thanks for the pics, after looking at yours I see the plunger is missing off the valve. Do not see it in the body, so I guess it's time for a new one. Have a nice weekend and I will sleep better now. I thought there was a plunger on there but could not see it.This site is great because of knowledgeable people as yourself, Rob
Hi Rob,
I see quite a few original switches with the 'disc' broken off the plunger shaft. They've become fragile as the years have gone by.
Be careful what you buy as a replacement since many of those now available simply don't work well.
Check with Willcox if you decide to buy one.

Alan
