I'm in the process of getting my 79 back on the road and was thinking of changing the number plate. What format plate can I go for and is there any that I cannot have because of the car's age?
Dont you have a motor vehicle bureau in the UK that can answer those questions? In this country you would go to any state DMV or go to the state DMV site.
I can't find any clear-cut information and most of the number plate dealers are geared up for later cars (I think). Thought I'd see if anyone had previous experience.
Hi I would ask the same question on the cccuk website forum over here in the uk ,you will get help from people who have done just what you are asking . http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/forum.php

Ok, I have two, one a private or cherished plate that are bought for a one-off payment and a second that is provided by the DVLA and is dependent on the original age / build date of the car.
My 72 wears V8 VET which I purchased many years ago and has been on several cars. It's now on my 72 Corvette.
My second is a registration provided by the DVLA when I imported and registered the car for the first time. This is a 71 Corvette and it was assigned 'J' registration which was issued the first time in 1971.
Other things to consider - you cannot have a registration plate that was issued after the car was built that would appear to make the car younger that it actually is.
Away from our normal yellow / black letters & white / black letters plates you can have 'vintage' plates made in black / silver for cars that are pre '73
Yours being a '79 would be an 'S' plate ? with the omission of O & Q plates.
Thank you Longtime and Stuart.
I'll have to start trawling the number plate sites.
I used to be a member of CCCUK when I first bought my Vett. I think I'll rejoin.
