Default Inside door opening control

I'm sure there is a previous post but I could not find it. The tangs on the inside door opening control mechanism broke and I need to replace it. Does anyone have any experience doing this and can explain how best to replace the mechanism. Thanks

There is only one company making the controls.. and you guys out there that have broken ears are living on a time bomb.

The pull handle slides inside to pot metal edges and then is screwed down with one screw. When the edges brake all that holds the handle is a single one screw and when it breaks off while pulling the handle you usually gouge the door panel with the expelled handle.

The controls at this link are USA made and a prefect part.

Is there any trick to installing? Nope, you just remove the lock rod and then remove the retaining bolts and then install the new one.

I'm really due for a new one for each side on the '76. My drivers side is already broken. The pass side is fine, but it may be best to have a spare on hand....

I've often thought about adding door poppers / solenoids when I reinstall the door panels / interior and remove the handles altogether (or leave them for looks)...

I'm not entirely concerned about being 100% original...

Those mechanisms were a poor design because you have to pull them out to be able to slide the handle on and people always try to pry them out by forcing something in the ends of those soft pot metal slots and usually break the end off. I always get something behind the front part to pull it out and slide a screw driver into the back to hold it open until I slide the handle all of the way into the slots . You will never break them this way .
