Getting the '71 ready to sell and I wanted some advice. I'm going to change the oil and I came across an AC PF-25 oil filter that was in my cabinet. I've had it for a long time, it's still in the box. Would it be safe to use it, or should I just buy a new one? The rubber gasket still looks good.
Also, I've tried to keep the car original over the past 40 years, but when I look at the engine, the original breather lid decal really sticks out as being over 45 years old. It would be easy to put on a new decal, but should I just leave it alone?
Hi 71,
Wow! I'm surprised you're selling this car!
I'd buy a new hp sticker for the air cleaner lid and have it available as you show someone the car and say they can do with it what they please.
I think this shows the buyer that you understand the present sticker's appearance, but also respect the car's originality.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan, good idea about have a new sticker on hand. I have mentioned a few times about selling the car and never followed through, but I really have to face reality. After hitting 65, I just don't enjoy crawling under cars like I use to. I hate reading threads about guys helping a widow sell her husband's Corvette and I wouldn't want my wife dealing with that, although I know she could.
I don't have a plan B, no kids, no one I would leave it to, so maybe in the very near future you'll see me listing it in the for sale section.
Hi,
I understand the situation you describe!
Just curious… what's the bottom of the filter look like…. a flat circle in it's center?, and if so what's the circle's size?
This MIGHT be a bit of a nice little find for you.
Regards,
Alan

The flat circle measures 1 5/8" across. It's the newer type, Duraguard, blue with the stick on label.

I called Racor once with a similar question about their fuel filters, they do have a shelf life and they recommended throwing them away as they were not "guaranteed" to work properly after 4 years (I think it was 4 years) I've also asked about oil filters, they do not seem to have an "expiration date" I'm not sure why, but from my research it's ok to use the oil filter.
