72 Racer Headlight Switch Ideas
On my 72 race car project I have eliminated the headlight vacuum and windshield washer vacuum needs by installing a long hood and fixed headlights. That means I don't need the standard headlight switch or the wiper control switches for the car.
My question here is what have you used to replace these if you have eliminated them in your car? Looking for creative ideas. Share what you have done here please.
Thank you and best regards,
David Howard

Hey David-
I used a BMW E34 headlight switch and instrument dimmer.
I was able to wire the headlights and parking lights from two sources- so the parking lights could/would stay on when ignition was off and the headlights would turn off w/ ignition. AND was able to wire the backlighting to the ignition.
The dimmer switch also works with my LED gauge lights.
For the interior lights- I ran a small SPDT (single pole double throw ) so one position the lights worked normally w/ the doors - one position they stay on and then there's a position for off. SO you can leave the doors open-work on the can and not have the lights on.
Plus - looks more period for my custom interior and used the bezel to mount the switch combination.

On the road on the Hotrod Power Tour- having a blast!!!
When I get back I'll be glad to shoot you a wiring diagram - of how really easy it is to hook up.

I`m using power window switches, mounted in an aluminum plate that I put into the ashtray. A USB port for music will be in the lighter hole. I had to make a bracket to mount the switches. When finished, they will be the over-ride switches for the headlight door & wiper door.
All concealed and looks stock with the ashtray door closed!
(Not what you`re doing, I know, but wanted to toss the idea of hidden switches in the ashtray)

... or you could just go full on race car with something like this or find a nostalgia type look. This one could be placed where the radio delete would be, just thinking out loud. Loving this project Sir keep on keep'in on.
