Gas Monkey Got the Wrong Corvette Summer Car
They paid $20K for a Corvette Summer abomination reported to be from the movie.
Well maybe it was used in the movie, or maybe it was Mark Hamill's driver to promote the movie (the movie car did not say "DRIVER Mark Hamill" on it like theirs does), but it is definitely not THE Corvette Summer car used in the close-ups.
To paraphrase Mark Hamill's words in the movie after the car is stolen, "The car is totally unique. It has right hand drive!"
And so it did. But Gas Monkey's doesn't.

Isn't the real one owner by Corvette America? I saw the car in the Corvette Hall of Fame in Cooperstown when Alan Sherry owned it around 1995.

Here's a quote from 2012 by Richard Korkes, aka Korky's Kustoms, about the car Gas Monkey bought and is selling at BJ:
"This is why you can’t believe the web. NO other promotional cars were built. I know, I built them! Two cars were built for the movie. A third car was built 15 years later in AZ. This car is not the car from the movie. Poor sucker who bought this one got took.
Korky"
The quote was from Korky right after it was purchased on ebay for 30K. He also states that both cars were right hand drive.

Back end was different also. The movie car had like a large panel light section with the Stingray wording going across it. The one they bought last night had 4 bubble tail light lenses.

Anyone other than me get the impression this is TV show hype? Gas Monkey buys an undocumented specialty car, then trots it off to B-J? The story line ought to be good for two or three episodes if it generates enough interest to make you want watch to see what happens.

Was this on a recent GM episode? Someone referred to buying it "last night." Is the car on the docket for B-J this month?

They also paid retail for that black 68 survivor BB car that they turned into a hot wheel. Come on Monkeys its Texas (no rust), there have to be plenty of NOM small blocks wandering around down there if you're just gonna chop it up.

The best shows are on YouTube. Roadkill, Jay Leno's Garage (not the tv version), Drive, The Smoking Tire, Petroliscious.
