I don't have cable so I don't get to watch GM as much as I would like, but I think Richard is funny. He cracks me up, he is such a knuckle head. I love his sense of humor, but I'm kinda' weird like that.
The Corvette Summer purchase episode was rerun last evening. Richard's partner purchased the car. All I can say is that he bought the story hook, line, and sinker without any actual confirmation. I'm still leaning toward TV hype and speculating the car did not change hands for the $20K agreed upon in the episode.

Dennis should have asked for money off after the owner smacked the concrete bird bath on the test drive.
I was also looking at it as someone without a clue buying it on the word of the owner. The only thing this car and the real CS car have in common is the ugly nose and hood.
As we say here in Texas when we've no vested interest either way, "I got no dog in this hunt"... I don't work for GMG or the show or Collins Bros. so before a bunch of replies come back, please understand that part...
Last weekend, I was encouraged by someone who would have direct knowledge on this deal to post a reply... So here goes... GMG - never states it is one of the two Korke's Custom cars built for the movie. What I was told had been said was it was supposedly the "Promo Car" that toured the theaters when the movie was released... It subsequently ended up in the Volo museum collection for awhile as well. Who knows? Maybe it was the promo car maybe it wasn't. No one at GMG including Dennis is saying it is the car used in the movie and if the show as aired suggested otherwise, then IMHO well, chock that up to good editing...
The car is in the B-J catalog and it states there and will also state on the placard placed next to it while on display next week," It is a piece of Hollywood history, but it is not the actual right-hand-drive car as seen in most of the scenes in the movie"
The pic's I took with my phone clearly show the left hand drive. I also noticed but didn't photgraph the air inlets in the scoop are not functional and of course the late 78 and up seats already mentioned...That's all folks!
I have to pass on Gas Monkey too, as well as Counting Cars and South Beach Classics. I can't stand the hosts.
I love Bitchin' Rides and FantomWorks. I like Graveyard Cars, even though it is about Mopars.
wow we couldnt be further apart. Phantom works even says in their intro that if he doesnt like what you want to do with your car then F U. the guy from graveyard cars would get a throat punch if he ever spoke to me the way he does his employees. I wont watch either show anymore.
Kindig is cool though.
It's funny people are getting bent out of shape about this particular car not being the 'movie' car. Promotional cars used 'on the road' to promote films, events, etc... were often quite different on close inspection from movie versions. The intent was simply to get people interested in the movie.
Our local theater used a painted Studebaker to represent 'Christine', they didn't even bother to get the same make let alone model of car!
Compared to the 'hero' car or 'stunt' cars, promotional cars were often quick projects to get the car to look similar and often could be far different like this car. At least it's got a reasonable facsimile hood, and likely it wasn't right hand drive so that it could easily be driven by even a novice for staging. All it takes is an easy 'flip' of an image to make the car seem right hand drive anyway.
As for the original movie car, it represents the late 70's style quite well with elaborate customization being the rage. And if you really wanted something different you usually had to do it yourself anyways, there wasn't a catalog with 50 different hoods with scoops like there are today.
BTW, take a look through some of the modern aftermarket hood selections, you'll see many versions that have modernized the Corvette Summer hood in shape, height, etc. The true mark of a great movie car is 1) It's remembered 2) It influences designers thinking. This Corvette did just that.
GMG is a reality TV show, thinking the show is about accuracy, authenticity, or anything but entertainment is laughable. Just have fun looking at some of the cars and don't get too wrapped up in the rest.

I agree completely with you on the guy from graveyard cars, but I still watch it once in a while because they really do nice restorations. I just wouldn't ever want to be in the same room as him.
Phantom works doesn't bother me because typically his refusal to do work has to do with safety. If a customer doesn't want to pay for their car to be functionally safe, he won't do the work. I can't blame him for that in this day and age with the amount of litigation out there.

Yea, it looks like BJ is listing it as inspired by corvette summer.
I saw the show and really got the impression that they thought they were buying one of "the" cars.
i think Fantomworks has lightened up a bit since it started. I remember an early episode where a guy wanted add boost to a mustang build and he refused to do it and then I believe did some other stuff that the owner did not like. In the end the guy refused the car.
I can't make myself watch graveyard cars. too much time spent insulting each other and not enough on the really nice cars they build.
The one show I really like is Bitchin Rides. Dave seems like a genuine car guy and appreciates his help. I thought Kevin was a dork (much like Mark's son in law or whatever on graveyard cars) when I first started watching the show, but it turns out he is a pretty smart dude and really does run the place.
It will be interesting to see what the Corvette summer inspired car brings at hammer. I don't remember what GM supposedly paid for it but I bet it does clear much beer money for them.

i seen the car when it was at the volo and it did not have the late 78 and up seats. the seats were a ugly fuzzy brown. I am pretty sure the post with the car on the black and white floor is a picture of the car in the volo museum.
