Hi R,
What year car? Your 76?
Not sure just what you have arriving tomorrow?
1.The black plastic part?
2.The black plastic handle and the chrome plated arm it attaches to?
3.The whole handle and mechanism?
The handle/arm is attached to the mechanism with a large drive pin.
The whole mechanism bolts to a bracket on the transmission tunnel.
Both #2 and #3 replacements will begin with removing the e-brake console. There are visible screws on each side and a hidden bolt at it's rear that is reached through the jack compartment.
So which one?
Regards,
Alan

The bolt that releases the back of the e-brake console. ( Looking through the jack compartment with the tray removed.)

The pin or rivet.

One of two bolts.

Yes, the black plastic handle and the chrome arm, it appears in the picture from Corvette America that it is all one piece.

I hope you don't mind if I ask here as well.
I need a new handbrake handle for my 1980 Vette, but I can find for this year anything. So will the one from 1979 model fit?

Thanks

Hi R,
To replace the arm the peened rivet pointed to in the second photo needs to be drilled out and replaced.

Alan

Hi w,
I don't know if the change is an appearance issue or an actual configuration issue.
It appears the replacement handle for an 80 car is only available complete…. with the bracket.
I don't know if an earlier handle/arm can be used.
Regards,
Alan

I appreciate all the information. The new handle assembly is installed. Just as Alan stated, tap out the 2 ppins, large pin towards the bottom and the small pin holding it to the wheel. However, getting the pins back in with everything lined up is definitely a 2 person job, if the assembly is still in the car. Thanks again to all that posted. As always, very helpful.
