Finished painting the differential and cover. I primed the plug and I am planning on painting it once it is installed because the paint will likely get scratched when I put a wrench on it. I test fitted it and it seemed to be a little tight but there is probably a little bit of primer on the threads. Does this look like it is seated or should it go all the way in up to the lip of the bolt?

Rookie here: I don't think it should ever screw all the way in.....it would probably screw in another thread or so if the threads were cleaned and had a drop of oil on them.

I believe that is a tapered pipe thread. So, no it will not screw in all the way.

On my 1977, the flange does not bottom out on the housing. There's a built in clearance for a red plastic hang tag with a reminder to use the limited slip additive.
