If you are dropping the pan and replacing the filter...usually about 4 quarts....the transmission holds about a case (12 quarts).

When filling it back up...you can leave it a little bit low...so when you go and drive it and get the transmission HOT.....you then fill it as required...(Transmission HOT...on LEVEL GROUND...engine idling)

...YES...generally four quarts come out. And...I only use AMSOIL ATF fluid....and yes...get four quarts and start there.... and make sure you do as I wrote...which is the SAME THING that is stamped on your transmission dipstick.

I WILL ADD THIS!!!! IF when you drop your transmission pan and empty the pan...and there is a lot of sludge build up that has stuck to the bottom of your pan. YOU might want to make the effort to SAVE the fluid that came out as best as you can.

WHY??? Well...when a transmission is neglected and not serviced and the sludge is thick on the bottom of your pan. When you clean it all out and THEN add 4 quarts of FRESH ATF...this FRESH ATF THINS the rest of your fluid and your transmission can fail shortly there after.

This is due to ATF is highly detergent....and thinning out its viscosity can cause for the clutches to lsip. AND....the old fluid that is thicker due to having the particles in it to keep it thicker MAY be actually better than replacing the fluid. AND the reason I am writing this is that a long time ago. I used to replace the fluid and the transmission would come back shortly and need to be rebuilt...and then an 'old timer' told me what to do and I have done it ever since and it ALL DEPEDNS on what I see on the bottom of the pan when I drop it.

9000 miles on it...you should be in really good shape and have very little to no clutch material on the bottom of the pan.
