I need some advice on shimming my 68, I changed the frame and the shims on the old body mounts were rusted out. here is a picture of my drivers door, it moved closer to the striker and is touching the body. I had to take out the spacer on the post to get it to close, any suggestions?

You may have to shim the body mounts different as every frame to body is a little different this was told to me by Tony Feckter who worked at the factory when your car was built .Tony said sometimes they even took a long 2X4 and lifted on door to add a ship to help align the door and then they used a grinder wheel down the door edge to get the gap.I hope this helps

Hi k,
It's difficult to determine if what you're showing in your picture is caused by the door hinges as has been suggested or a more basic problem.
Convertible bodies sometimes have a bit of 'flex' in them.
From what you say, it sounds like this body is now sitting on a different frame than it left St.Louis with. Is that so?
If it is, how did you approach determining how many shims to use at each body mount? That can have a big effect on the door gaps.
A good way to arrive at the count for each mount is to put 3 shims on each mount, then put the body in place, look the door gap situation over, and add or remove shims as needed to get the gaps you desire.
Have you looked at the condition of the hinges? You can check them by opening the door and lifting the latch end…. there shouldn't be any movement up or down.
A couple more pictures showing more of the overall fit of the door in the body (front and back) opening might help folks figure out how you should proceed.
Regards,
Alan
I agree with all that was said above. Step back and give us a picture of the entire door including what the front looks like. Both doors please.
Then I think more of us can help
Thanks

If the door hinges are wore out fixing the gaps will be like pushing a rope up hill
