Default So what's this?

1982 Corvette Collector Edition. When I was taking a look at the battery, I came across this connector. Anyone know what this is for?? Any help is appreciated. I'm stumped as every switch, ****, dial, light and feature that I know of on this car works, so can't figure out what this thing is...

I was able to push the battery towards the back of the car and saw the orange wire led to a silver box that pretty much rests up against the back of the driver's seat (from a positioning perspective). This is the picture I took with my phone as if I were sitting on top of the battery and looking towards the front of the car. Looks like the orange wire terminates there.

Sorry for the elementary question if this is something simple or straightforward, but I'm a bit of a newbie with the electrical stuff. Thanks!

Default Orange Wire

I have a 68 and the orange wire goes to the clock and radio memory which will stay on when the battery is disconnected by the battery disconnect switch that I installed on the battery.
Not sure about yours, but the orange wire is the factory color for the radio on a 68.

Might be an inline fuse for a powered stereo amplifier. Or some other aftermarket electrical device. Doesn't look factory to anything I have seen.

Probably computer power. You show the CPU in your pic just in front of the battery.

You could always pull the fuse and see what stops working

Thanks guys. Sorry wasn't able to check in or do much further as I was out for the weekend. I'll take a closer look with more time this week and try to get a picture of the label that's on the part. Don't believe it's aftermarket as I think I could vaguely make out the GM symbols on the label. I also have a Chilton's manual somewhere; not sure if that would help or I'd really need an assembly manual.

OK, with a few more minutes of time, the cue from EasyMike and good old Google, I confirmed it's the ECM/Computer that controls the CFI and other components. And it looks like the wire that started the whole thing is the inline fuse connected to the ECM. Officially adding a new wrinkle to the Corvette side of my brain!
