Hi C2,
Awfully NICE looking compartment!
"I'd like to get this as factory correct as I can."
I notice 2 things, but you may be aware of them:
The radiator cap is a stainless steel replacement... the originals where just zinc plated steel.
The wiper door actuator originally had a 'gold-ish iridescent' finish.
There are folks re-plating the actuators or you can improve the appearance of yours with a dusting of copper/gold paint.
Again VERY nice!
Regards,
Alan

Hi C2,
We've veered off the subject of this thread a bit.?!?
That's a question that gets asked pretty often.
It's the 'vent' line for the "wiper door 3-port interlock switch".
That's the switch that the right side wiper transmission arm compresses when the wipers are turned off in order to signal the wiper door relay that the wipers are in the 'park' position and that it's o.k. to close the door.
Regards,
Alan
The black hose is the vent hose.

LS5 Valve covers and air cleaners
Why do some of the LS5's have painted valve covers and others have Chrome. I also see open air cleaners and dual snorkel. I see only one 454 engine option for the 70 model year. Can someone explain the differences.
Thank you,
Fred

50,500 mile, 2 owner, unrestored (obviously). Happy to hear what people say/think. I believe no smog is correct, and the car had no radio when new so lack of shielding is also correct. Wrong spark plug wires, hoses, many clamps... what else?

Engine bay pics or other? The car is an LS5 (obviously), 4 speed, convertible. Relatively low option car with just power steering, RWL tires, and $12.65 for the "economy axle ratio" per the window sticker. Original paint, glass, wheels, interior. All kinds of goodies down to one of the two original rubber tubes that ran off the battery and the factory original spare (which I no longer keep in the car). Canvas top is original but the back window is not (or that is my perception; car has never been judged). Original owner had a Corvette radio installed by the dealer in '72 or '73, which is still in the car. He told me after he checked the box for the big block, he just couldn't afford any of the radio options. I have the block off plate and keep thinking I'll pull the radio and block it off, but then I'm left with a "vestigial" antenna.

Drifting
Man, those dual-snorkel air cleaners are just bad-a**!
I have revived my interest in the 70-72 cars and am really enjoying taking a close look again and getting re-acquainted.

Version 4 or 5, might be 6. Not sure anymore as I've lost track. This time mostly cosmetic (except for a new MSD 6AL box and PWM fan controller)
