C3 how to install drivers side mirror
Okay, I'm finally close to the finish line with my 69 and am assembling the door. The PO covered and painted over the mirror mounting holes. I can see the indentation of where it's supposed to be, but there is a beam on the inside of the door preventing access. I remember reading that it's not easy, what should I expect? Are there nuts under his patch job? And... Bubba also cut two small holes behind where I would expect to install the nuts.

It looks like sometime in your cars past someone cut those holes so they could install nuts on the machine screws coming through from the outside mounting plate , that's ok but some type of backing plate would need to be used for reinforcement. A fiddly job for sure. I think there was a post a while back from DUB addressing this problem. Do a search on mirror installation and see what comes up.
